Dream Theater Nominated for a Grammy in "Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Performance"

Recently, Dream Theater posted on their facebook page and website that they will be nominated for a grammy in "Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Performance" for their song "On the Backs of Angels" off thier new album "A Dramatic Turn of Events." After a year of twists and turns including losing their drummer Mike Portnoy who was a major founding member, Dream Theater has met nothing but success. Their recent US tour had many sold out shows and in my opinion was the best concert I have attended in my life. Dream Theater still has the soul and with the new drummmer Mike Mangini, could possibly acheieve greater levels. Congrats on your nomination Dream Theater and hopefully you will take home a win.

Quote from Dream Theater's Facebook: "2011 has been quite an amazing year for us. We watched 'A DRAMATIC TURN OF EVENTS'—our eleventh studio album—enter the Top Ten in 14 countries around the world including the U.S. And now we land our first-ever Grammy nomination [for the song "On The Backs of Angels" in the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance category]. It’s the icing on the cake--we’re honored and thrilled, no doubt about it. It... took us a while to receive this Grammy attention--and we’ve done it on our own terms musically, so it feels particularly sweet. What keeps you going as a musician is the love and support from the fans--they are always there for us on this crazy adventure. So we give them a big shout-out as we celebrate our Grammy nomination. See you all on the road…and let's all keep dreaming big.”

Occupy Miami: Interview with the singer of my band Narcisa and his views

This past weekend after tracking drums for my bands new song, "Fall From Heaven," I learned more about the recent Occupy Miami protest. I realize this is a departure from the topics of the blogs, but after conversing with my singer about this movement, I was immediately intrigued. These have been protests that began on Wall Street and have trickled down to Miami. Also my singer (to remain anonymous) mentioned that there were all types of people protesting and mainly a lot of people who are interested in Hard Rock and Heavy Metal music. How would you feel about hosting a hard rock/metal festival at the occupy Miami site. Please leave your comments below and support the movement! Location: NW 1st street and NW 2nd Ave in Downtown Miami.

Stay Tuned for future plans of a Hard Rock/Metal Festival at the Occupy Miami Site!

New Music Technology from TC Electronic: IPhone Communication And Data Transfer with Guitar Pickups?

When I first saw a demonstration of this technology I had no clue what its intended purpose was. There was an iphone and an electric guitar and the iphone would generate a frequency and the electric guitar's pickups would respond to said frequency (a principle called beaming). This looked interesting but what was the new technology? This past week, TC Electronic announced a brand new IPhone application to accompany their recent development, the Toneprint pedals, which let you download customized sounds from famous artists on-line. The Iphone would expedite the process of connecting a USB cable to the computer and downloading each patch individually. Rather, a library of patches will be made available in the application. This application will be made available for Android in December. Check out a video of this new Toneprint Application in action and comment below about your take on this new technology!

Wed November 9th: Korn With Datsik and Downlink at the Fillmore in Miami Beach

Come out and see the legendary band Korn this coming Wednesday at the Fillmore (Jackie Gleason Theater) in support of their new album "The Path of Totality." This new release from Korn features more of a fusion of dubstep, drum and bass, and electro-house. Korn has fused electronic music into their songs on previous albums, but this particular one features producers of electronic music such as legendary dubstep artist Skrillex. This should be an interesting show to see and below features a hit single featuring Skrillex, "Get Up!" off their new album (Explicit lyrics are present)!
What is your take on the Metal and Dubstep fusion? Please Leave your comments below...

Bloody Metal Sunday: Pre-halloween celebration at Club Eve Review

My band Narcisa just played its first Miami show at Club Eve in downtown Miami. The lineup consisted of friends from Pompano Beach Beyond Our Will, The Killing Hours who are currently looking for a vocalist but still but on a great performance instrumentally, and the legends of Miami, IMAIM. The crowd was not too massive but still rocking out and showing their loyalty and support for the local scene. The main detractor from the event was the weather which was a non-stop downpour to say the least. This proved challenging even for us as we were moving our equipment into the venue and did not provide the most favorable touch to our set. Otherwise, the show went on all the bands were awesome and this was the place to spend Halloween weekend. How did you spend halloween, despite the horrible weather? Please leave a comment below. Check out my band Narcisa next week at Area 7 Music and Ale.
